The Telegraph’s annual festive fundraiser has brought in £30m for good causes since it began
The Telegraph has named the charity partners for its Christmas appeal.
The newspaper will raise funds for Age UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Action for Children and Royal British Legion Industries, it announced over the weekend.
The Telegraph’s annual charity appeal has raised £30m for good causes since it was first held in 1986, the newspaper group said.
Launching this year’s appeal, the Telegraph cited Charities Aid Foundation research showing that 5m people had stopped giving to charity since 2019 and said this year’s fundraiser “is one of the most important we have ever launched”.
Lynda Thomas, chief executive at Macmillan, said: “We are hugely grateful to be included in this year’s Telegraph Christmas appeal, which will help us to continue to provide our vital range of support which people with cancer need now more than ever.”
The charity relied “almost entirely on public donations” to fund its frontline work and advice services, Thomas added.
Action for Children said that money raised through the appeal would help the charity provide “vital services to more families when they need it most”.
Melanie Armstrong, chief executive of Action for Children, said: ‘We’re thrilled to be working with The Telegraph to amplify the voices of children and young people across the UK and bring attention to the issues affecting them.
“This winter, the soaring cost of living will put already-struggling families under unprecedented pressure, and it is the most vulnerable children who are likely to be impacted most.”
Hannorah Lee, director of partnerships at Age UK, said: “Millions of older people are facing an incredibly difficult time this winter, soi we are hugely grateful the Telegraph has recognised and chosen Age UK as one of four charities to benefit from its Christmas charity appeal.”
Telegraph readers donated £696,000 to its festive appeal last year, with the funds shared by the Alzheimer’s Society, the Dogs Trust, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and the cancer charity Maggie’s.
