Several Valley private schools switch spots in Niche's latest rankings – The Business Journals

The top 10 on Niche’s latest list of the best private schools in the Valley looks similar to last year’s, with just one newcomer and a couple of changes in order.
In fact, the top three schools on Niche’s 2023 list held their spots from last year, with Phoenix Country Day School in Paradise Valley coming in at No. 1, followed by Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix and Rancho Solano Preparatory School in Scottsdale.
The top 10 newcomer this year was Arizona Lutheran Academy, which was No. 11 last year. It swapped spots with last year’s No. 10 Valley Christian Schools of Chandler.

Of the 24 graded Valley private schools on Niche’s list, several were also on the Phoenix Business Journal’s recently released list of the Largest Phoenix-Area Private Schools. The schools on that list had 18,159 students in their fall enrollment, taught by 1,829 teachers. The five largest campuses have more than 1,000 students each.
Phoenix Country Day School has 750 students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, with a student-teacher ratio of 7:1. The school reports that 36% of its students identify as persons of color and that all of its graduates go on to attend four-year colleges.
Tuition for the highest level costs $28,200 per year at Phoenix Country Day School, according to Niche’s profile, which indicated that prices may have changed since its data was gathered. That was the most expensive among all the schools on Niche’s Phoenix-area list.
It’s the ninth year of rankings for Niche, an online education data platform.
Niche said it provides profiles on every school and college in America, said it based its rankings on an analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores, college data and ratings from Niche users, in addition to input from the schools themselves.
Grades are given based on weighted factors, with nearly half of the scoring based on the Niche scores of colleges that graduates go on to attend and average SAT/ACT composite scores. Other factors include the percentage of seniors who go on to four-year colleges, culture and diversity reporting, parent and student survey results, and student-teacher ratios.
“While traditional rankings rely almost exclusively on metrics like test scores and academic performance, Niche’s rankings combine user input — ratings from current students, alumni, and parents — with quantitative data from sources like the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities, extracurricular activity opportunities and more,” Niche said in a news release.
