North Shields man arrested in connection with alleged Albanian people-smuggling operation
A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged people-smuggling operation after an early morning raid was carried out.
A fourth member of a suspected organised crime group alleged to be operating out of the North East has been arrested as part of a pre-dawn operation on Thursday. The arrest was made after Home Office teams executed a warrant at a property in North Shields as part of an investigation into a suspected people-smuggling operation involving Albanian nationals.
A 40-year-old man was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration by the Home Office’s Criminal and Financial Investigation unit. His arrest is the fourth to be made in connection with alleged criminal activity targeting UK Channel ports.

Sunderland fugitive Alan Jordan still on the run as £3,000 reward for information offered
Wanted man Alan Jordan remains on the run – and details of his whereabouts could be rewarded with a huge cash sum.
Crimestoppers is renewing its offer of £3,000 for information which leads to the capture of Jordan, 31, who knows he is wanted on emergency recall to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.
Jordan, from Sunderland, also has links to Derbyshire, Edinburgh, and Manchester, with officers continuing with their enquiries to get him back behind bars.

First new Tyne and Wear Metro train hit by 'technical glitch' that halts journey to North East again
The first of the new Tyne and Wear Metro trains has suffered a “technical glitch” that has delayed its arrival in the North East for a second time.
Transport chiefs had hoped that they would be welcoming the first of the £362m fleet this week, having already seen it pushed back from December. But it has instead had to be taken back to manufacturer Stadler’s factory in Switzerland after experiencing a fault as it set off on its journey to the UK.

Northumberland country pub named on best gastropubs list for thirteenth consecutive year
A Northumberland country pub is celebrating its thirteenth consecutive year on a "prestigious" list of the UK's best gastropubs.
Since The Rat Inn in Anick was taken over by Karen Errington and Phil Mason in 2007 it has been featured in the Michelin Guide and recommended by Harden's. And it is now considered part of the "old guard" for the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list, which it first entered at number 41 in 2011.
