Here’s a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene:
Rack Room Shoes has promoted Jennifer Scantland to Midwest/Tennessee Regional Manager. Based in Memphis, Scantland covers stores in West Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. She joined Rack Room Shoes in 2003 and was an assistant manager before being promoted and relocating to Nashville to serve as district manager in 2009.
Boyle Investment Company appointed Matt Hayden as its president and chief executive officer. He will oversee the management, finance and operation of Boyle and its affiliated companies, Boyle Nashville and Boyle Insurance Agency, with a total of approximately 135 employees. Hayden joined Boyle in 2014 as deputy treasurer and in 2016 was promoted to chief financial officer. Among his responsibilities is overseeing the company’s investment fund, Midsouth Capital Fund, its investment committee and its acquisition/disposition analysis of properties.
Public finance and municipal bond attorney Miska L. Shaw was formally recognized by the National Bar Association in its 2022 class of “40 Under 40 Nation’s Best Advocates.” The award recognizes the nation’s top 40 lawyers under the age of 40 who exemplify a broad range of high achievement in the legal field, including in advocacy, innovation, vision, leadership and overall legal and community involvement. She is one of only two Black women attorneys in Tennessee who focus their law practice primarily on public finance matters. Earlier this year, she was named a 2022 Memphis Business Journal “40 Under 40” honoree. She is an active member of the Ben F. Jones Memphis Chapter of the National Bar Association.
The Tennessee Region of the American Red Cross announced Mat St. Martin has been named disaster program manager with the Mid-South Chapter of the American Red Cross in Memphis. The Mid-South chapter serves Dyer, Fayette, Lake, Lauderdale, Obion, Shelby and Tipton counties in Tennessee, Crittenden County in Arkansas and DeSoto and Tunica counties in Mississippi. St. Martin previously was a researcher and guest lecturer at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand before taking the position in Memphis. He has a master’s degree in Emergency and Disaster Risk Management from Auckland University of Technology.
U.S. News & World Report released its 2022-2023 Best Colleges rankings, which evaluate 1,500 colleges and universities across the country, and Rhodes College achieved high rankings once again. The four overall rankings —National Universities, National Liberal Arts Colleges, Regional Universities and Regional Colleges — are based on measures of academic quality such as graduation rates, faculty resources, first-year retention rates, class size and student selectivity for the entering class. Rhodes ranked No. 55 — sharing that position with four other colleges — for National Liberal Arts Colleges. Rhodes also landed at No. 23 for Most Innovative and No. 26 for Best Undergraduate Teaching among liberal arts colleges. For a fourth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report ranked programs that are linked to student success and positive learning outcomes. Rhodes received recognition in the First-Year Experience and Undergraduate Research categories. Rhodes also appears in U.S. News & World Report’s overall rankings of Computer Science Programs.

The Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis announced its 2022-2023 annual grant cycle, awarding 34 organizations nearly $1.5 million. This marks the organization’s highest year-to-date investment in the community. With more than $34 million in grant-making efforts throughout the foundation’s 27-year tenure, this latest round of grant-making has reaffirmed its leadership and dedication to investing in pathways for long-term solutions in neighborhoods throughout the Memphis community.
