Iowa Hawkeyes rise once again in USA TODAY Sports' 1-131 re-rank – Hawkeyes Wire

After a 13-10 road win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Iowa Hawkeyes are in a spot of controlling their own destiny within the Big Ten West and need just one more win to make the dream a reality.
After winning at Minnesota, the Hawkeyes are seeing a fourth-straight week of rising in the USA TODAY Sports’ 1-131 re-rank. This week sees the Hawkeyes jump up 11 spots all the way to No. 34.
The loss sent Minnesota sliding downwards from the 49th spot to No. 51 in the rankings. Iowa’s upcoming opponent, the Nebraska Cornhuskers sit with a record of 3-8 after a loss to the Wisconsin Badgers and are down at No. 100 in the re-rank.
Kirk Ferentz knows that the matchup against the Cornhuskers carries significant weight with a trip to the Big Ten Championship and the Big Ten West on the line.
“Now, shapes up to be a significant game that way, but you’re always hoping to play for something in November, but you never know what it’s going to be. I’m guessing—I don’t know anything about gambling—I’m guessing if you put 10 bucks on us four weeks ago, you’d probably be okay. I’m not advocating that, but just, it probably would have been a good deal. Have a hard time finding any takers on that one, but anyway, so now it’s just, that’s the way it is. We had no control over what else was going to go on today other than what we could do, and that was our encouragement. Just let’s focus on what’s in front of us. And that’s exactly what we need to do this next five days, too,” Ferentz said when asked about the importance of the win over Minnesota.
Iowa hosts Nebraska this Friday, November 25 at 3pm CT in Kinnick Stadium. With a win, Iowa clinches the Big Ten West.
