Florida International University (FIU) has been honored with five national distinctions for its veteran and military educational services. The university reports just under 1,200 military-affiliated students spanning the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force.

FIU established its Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success in 2021, providing student veterans with connects special resources. The initiative, funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, works to track various matrics among students arriving at the university following military service including retention rates, four-year graduation rates, and coordinating services to help alleviate certain needs among students.
Colleges of Distinction also recognized FIU among its top institutions for Military Support, marking it as one of five Florida universities to achieve the recognition, while Military Times ranked FIU 36th among its “Best for Vets” public and private universities.
To round out the series of distinctions, U.S. News & World Report ranked FIU 35th among its “Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans.”
“We are here to ensure each veteran and military-affiliated Panther has access to the services they need to create a fulfilling university experience and successful transition into the next stage of their professional lives,” said interim Director of FIU’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs Phillip Lloyd Hamilton.
