Factbox: How Did UK, Foreign Newspapers, Magazines in London Cover Death of Queen Elizabeth II? – See

By Luisa Markides
Last month, the media around the world was preoccupied with covering the death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, especially in her home country.
Her pictures appeared on the front pages of the world’s newspapers the morning after Buckingham Palace announced her death at the age of 96.
Television channels were busy airing special programs that narrate her biography and highlight the stations of her life and her rule, which exceeded 70 years.
Britain had the lion’s share of media coverage, on which major British media organizations had been trained for many years. That was evident through the accuracy, organization and speed of coverage and the reports they published.
The UK newspapers, issued on the morning of Friday September 9, published 426 pages talking about the Queen, according to statistics released by the Press Gazette; a UK media trade magazine.
The statistics showed that “the UK newspapers arrived late this day to the sellers and distributors, while the journalists were struggling with time to make special issues about the Queen.”
“The news of the death was confirmed at half past six in the evening on Thursday, which means that the end time of the first edition should have been extended, which is usually around seven in the evening.”
The Press Gazette added that “the BBC suspended its traditional programs at 12:40 pm to provide coverage on the Queen’s health, mostly presented by Huw Edwards in black tie, and on Friday morning the red front page headers turned black or blue.”
The Gazette also said that “similar coverage, which can be compared to what happened, was the coverage of the death of Prince Philip (the Queen’s husband) on April 9, 2021, where 540 pages were written about him over a period of 3 days from Saturday to Monday.”
Regarding foreign media outlets issued from Britain and according to a questionnaire monitoring interactions through websites and social media network sites, Majalla magazine had the best foreign reports. The report, titled “Grief Proves to Be Itself the Medicine” was written by Luisa Marks.
