A WOMAN was gobsmacked at a simple request from bin collectors – but whose side are you on?
The Yorkshire woman says she couldn't believe it when the council politely asked her to make sure she put her rubbish bin out in a specific way.
She was asked to place her bin on the street with its handles facing outwards.
The Hull City Council explained simply in a letter that it makes less work for the waste management crews.
But the woman has dubbed the request "ridiculous".
The letter read: "It has been brought to our attention that bins are being left out with the handles not facing out for the crews.
"Please ensure all bins are brought and left with handles facing out."
The letter, sent by the the Waste Management Team, continued: "The crews can struggle with moving the bins if they are left the wrong way, which can cause issues with emptying.
"We would like to thank you in advance for your co-operation, helping to keep Hull a clean, tidy and environmentally friendly place to live."
The woman, who has a disability, asked why refuse collectors could not just "turn the bins around themselves".
She told Hull Live: "I was honestly howling when I read it.
"How on earth does the bin handle facing away mean they can’t empty it – and why can’t they just turn it around?"
She claimed: "They don’t bring back assisted collection bins unless there are signs telling them to, and even then it’s intermittent."
This comes not long after a Edinburgh council sent a letter to a resident, asking her to paint her door a more "suitable" shade.
And Miranda Dickson's pink door not only caused a stir with her council, but her neighbours, too.
And, a London man recently received a heap of letters from his council.
But, they're all fines – which he says aren't his.
