COPS are probing the death of a man in a gay sauna, we can reveal.
The tragedy happened at The Pipeworks in Glasgow on Saturday night when a 51-year-old died in what police have described as 'unexplained' circumstances.
Officers were called to the Metropole Lane premises just before 8pm when the alarm was raised by worried patrons.
Emergency crews attended but the man, who hasn’t been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passing isn’t being treated as suspicious and investigations are underway to establish the cause of death.
Police tape could be seen around a gun metal grey electric Hyundai motor in nearby Howard Street which it's understood is related to the police probe.
David Cooper, director of operations at Pipeworks, revealed staff raced to the stricken man's aid but were unable to save him – claiming he had suffered a cardiac arrest at the venue.
He praised their 'amazing efforts' and passed on condolences to the deceased's loved-ones.
He said: "Our teams training kicked in and our colleagues performed CPR, whilst utilising our onsite defibrillator.
"Sadly these efforts were not successful and our member sadly passed away.
"Our condolences go out to the family and friends of our member, whilst we thank the amazing efforts of our highly trained team."
Owners describe the adult venue as “Scotland’s best and largest Gay Sauna club”.
It has been on the go for 14 years and was recently the subject of a £400,000 refurbishment programme.
The improvements included a new floor with private cabins, a private sling room and a cinema cruise area.
A post on the club's Twitter page revealed the venue closed after a "serious incident' bu was open again on Sunday morning.
It said: "We will be back open at 10am. We had a serious incident this evening (Saturday) and have been closed since 8pm but will be back open Sunday 10am."
A blurb on their website reads: “Our team are there to give a warm and friendly welcome to new and existing members.
“If you require further information or just to chat please don’t hesitate making an approach when visiting our facility, as our staff are there to help make your visit an enjoyable experience.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a sudden death of a 51-year-old man at a premises on Metropole Lane, Glasgow around 7.55pm on Saturday.
