A busy Yeovil road will be closed next week. Traffic disruption is expected as roadworks will shut Preston Road for five days.
Somerset County Council has confirmed the "vital" resurfacing work will start on Monday (January 16) and drivers have been warned to expect delays in the area. According to the council, the road surface is "showing significant signs of wear and tear and needs repairing as soon as possible to avoid further serious deterioration".
The road will be resurfaced between the A37 Ilchester Road and the junction with Summerleaze Park and Westfield Road from January 16 to January 20. A full road closure will be in place between 7.30am and 6pm from Monday to Friday, with the road reopened in the evenings.

Councillor Mike Rigby said: "Undertaking these works during the day will reduce disruption for local services. However, we understand there will still be disruption, and our team will do everything they can to minimise this.
"Our team will be in touch with residents and businesses in the immediate area to ensure they have all the information they need. Please do check the details on the diversion and plan ahead if you use this route regularly."
The council says the work is being carried out during daylight hours as this is a residential area and the route is in close proximity to four care homes.
