SNOW could fall over Britain in just DAYS as temperatures momentarily plummet across the UK.
Heavy rain is set to soak the northwest today while the white stuff is set to blanket northerly parts of Scotland this weekend.
Up to 2ins of snow could fall in the Scottish mountains over the next ten days, the Mirror reports.
It comes after the High Cairngorms mountain saw the first snow settling of the season on Friday.
Meanwhile torrential downpours are set to lash parts of the north later today, with heavy rain moving across Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Met Office forecaster, Annie Shuttleworth, told The Sun Online: “From Sunday we will start to see windier and wetter weather arrive from the west again.
"That is likely to push through the country on Sunday evening onto Monday and behind that we’ve got colder air again. That brings a risk of snow showers to the high ground in Scotland.
"And it looks like we will see the cold spell last until early next week before things warm up again."
Heavy rain is expected to fall over northern parts of the UK in the days ahead, with weather maps from WXCharts showing a band of adverse weather arriving from across the Atlantic on Thursday.
This rainfall could reach levels of 10mm per hour in Northern Ireland and Scotland by the evening, with sustained but less intense precipitation expected in the south of England and Wales in the early hours of Friday.
It comes as temperatures rise in the coming days, before dropping again from Sunday.
Ms Shuttleworth added: “We’ve got some rain arriving into North West through this afternoon. That will be relatively persistent and heavy at times.
"Northern England northern Ireland and Scotland will see some of that rain through Thursday before it final arrives into the south east on Friday where it could be heavy at times.
“Once that rain clears through on Friday through to the south east of the country we will see some relatively fresh air.
"It will feel chilly over night, with many areas reaching lower single figures – particularly in northern areas.
"But by the end of next week temperatures are picking up to just above average."
On Thursday, rain over Scotland and Northern Ireland is set to move into northern England and Wales, while heavy rain will be slow to clear across the south on Friday.
The Met Office forecast for Friday until Sunday, states: "Rain, heavy in places slow to clear the south Friday.
"Elsewhere a good deal of dry weather and the odd shower. Wet and windy weather reaching the north on Sunday."
