A MUM was handed almost £2,000 in dirty cash after her "hitman" brother was paid to slash a killer drug baron's face in prison.
Kelsey Rayne, 26, was told to hand £1,400 to a close family friend and allowed to keep the remaining £500.
Her half-brother Gary Moody had slashed the face of a criminal "Mr Big" Christopher Zammit with a razor blade during exercise.
Describing the attack, he told her: "I have done them proud, I have done it for them."
Rayne, who has a nine-year-old son, wept as she was spared a jail term after admitting acquiring criminal property.
The mental health worker was instead handed a six month sentence suspended for 18 months.
Manchester Crown Court heard how Moody, who was jailed for robbing three students at knifepoint, had approached Zammit from behind in the jail attack.
Zammit refused to answer any questions from the police – asking officers to turn their bodycams off – and later threatened Moody's family in retailiation.
Meanwhile, Moody phoned Rayne and told her was expecting to be paid for a job he had done and that the cash would go into her account.
But when it wasn't, he gave his sister a phone number and told her to call it and ask where the money was.
After they failed to pick up, Moody told Rayne to call another number and tell them he was in segregation and failure to cough up gives people a "bad name".
The money was eventually paid in two parts in Rayne's bank account with her half-brother telling her to keep £500.
Geoff Whelan, prosecuting, said: "Later that day, Moody called Rayne and gave her a false story of how he acquired the money and reminded her to send it onto a friend.
"He began to get frustrated with her due to the lack of progress with the payment and threatened her and her partner. He also told Rayne about how he could hurt people if he had no other income.
”An investigation linked Moody with the GBH and led to his questioning by the police. In interview, he told the police that the money paid to his family was in relation to the sale of a watch."
When Rayne was questioned, she told officers she was desperate for the money and in an abusive relationship at the time.
Sentencing, Judge Suzanne Goddard KC told her: “This is a very serious matter indeed, and I do not accept that you did not have any idea what was going on at the beginning.
“However, it is clear that you are a very decent person who works hard when you can.
"I am sure that this has been a very salutary lesson for you and I hope you do not succumb to temptation like this in the future.”
