I don’t think there is a name for it, but there certainly is a feeling. The day after the MLB All-Star Break is one of the solitary, empty days a sports fan has to go through.
The Mid-Summer Classic and everything that surrounds it during All-Star Weekend plays as a blinder for the harsh reality of what’s to come the day after the last out of the ninth inning in the NL vs. AL game.
The dynasty continues!

When you think about it, baseball is our only relief to get us through an otherwise barebones sports season. Sure we have tennis and golf sprinkled in there, but of the four major American sports, America’s past time is the only one in the summer spotlight.
The NBA Finals ended a month ago, and even though we have had a Draft and an NBA Summer League ended over the weekend, now there are no traces of basketball to be found anywhere. Game 6 feels like forever ago. Tip off for next season seems even longer away, and on the 20th of July? Forget about it.
Rookies have already started to report to training camp in preparations for the next NFL season. The veterans will show up on Saturday, but training camp is just a few snippets of news thrown out here and there to wet our whistle. That will not suffice in the one day window without sports.

The NHL season may have just ended a couple weeks ago, but hockey players, coaches and executives are well into their vacation days. Members of the front office staff had to stick around until the end of the NHL Draft which wrapped up on the 8th of July, but their job for the time being.
Cameron Smith wrapped up the major championship season in the PGA Tour with his final round comeback at St. Andrews to etch his name on the Claret Jug and in the history books of the game. The end of The Open leaves us with slim pickings for the next couple months when it comes to golf. The 3M Classic Open is this week, but that doesn’t start until Thursday, so that does us no good. We can’t forget about the LIV Gold Series, but the next event in that tour isn’t until the 29th of July.

The winter World Cup in Qatar means that the top leagues in Europe will start their camps and preseason games a bit earlier that usual. But at the moment many of the big stars are still finding their fitness on the training ground as opposed to in the starting XI in many of these early preseason matches.
The CONCACAF W Championship ended last night with the USWNT winning the title for a ninth time, and the Women’s Euros are going on at the moment, but we probably aren’t pay as much attention to that as we should.
The eyes of Athletics world have been on Eugene, Oregon. Today will mark Day 6 of the World Athletics Championship as the best in the world take the center stage at Hayward Field.
The ATP Hamburg is in it’s early stages, but there is only one second round match, that is Alejandro Davidovich Fokina taking on Jozef Kovalik at 5:00 a.m. ET.
As you can see there are slim pickings when it comes to sports the day after the All-Star Game. Maybe all of us sports junkies can use the today to take a walk, get some sun, go to the gym, or take a swim under the hot summer sun. Whatever you choose, enjoy responsibly and know sports may be down but it’s never out for long.
