First prison interview by sex trafficker
Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell has given her first interview from prison and expressed that she feels sorry for her friend Prince Andrew.
Maxwell lamented that their friendship could not survive the legal battles which have seen her end up in prison, while the disgraced Duke of York evaded trial in a related sexual abuse case by paying an out-of-court settlement.
It was widely reported that the late Queen Elizabeth herself helped pay for Andrew‘s multi-million-dollar settlement. At the same time, she also stripped him of certain titles and royal duties.
Despite Prince Andrew‘s lawyers’ claims that the pair were never close, Maxwell insists that they were good friends and she continues to think about him.
“I feel so bad for him. I follow what is happening to him,” Maxwell told The Sun.
“I accept that this friendship could not survive my conviction.
“He is paying such a price for the association. I consider him a dear friend. I care about him.”
This is the first time Maxwell has spoken publicly since her arrest in July 2020 and she looks back on her life with many regrets.
“I said in my court statement that meeting Epstein was the greatest mistake of my life,” Maxwell said.
“And obviously, if I could go back today, I would avoid meeting him, and I would make different choices.”
Prince Andrew is far from the only high-profile man to have been associated with Maxwell, but she says she has lost many friends over these events, which are still so shrouded in mystery and doubt.
Maxwell is serving 20 years in prison for trafficking underage teenage girls, but little is known about who she was doing this for, beyond Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison.
“It was a special friendship [with President Clinton], which continued over the years,” Maxwell said.
“We had lots in common. I feel bad that he is another victim, only because of his association with Jeffrey. I understand he, like others, can no longer consider me as a friend.”
