Video footage of a fire that broke out at a business park in Altrincham in the early hours this morning shows smoke billowing over the town hours later.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said six fire engines were called out to a commercial premises on Craven Road at approximately 4am this morning.
The fire is believed to be coming from J Davidson Scrap Metal Processors, a two-acre site on the street.
Firefighters from Stretford, Sale, Altrincham, Wythenshawe and Eccles were joined by a Command Support Unit from Hyde, a hose laying lorry from Cheadle and an aerial unit from Manchester Central to stamp out the blaze.
But images and video footage captured by members of the public reveal the extent of the fire with smoke seen billowing into the sky by commuters and residents hours after firefighters were called out.
One resident, Rob Anderson, said at 8am this morning that smoke was continually “pouring out” near his home, four hours after fire crews attended the scene.

Meanwhile, another member of the public, Darren Marsden, said he saw “toxic smog” emerging from the area and in the vicinity of Altrincham Retail Park.

Another image shows a large plume of smoke could be seen from miles away as one man said he could still see it from his workplace.

GMFRS has been approached for an update on the situation.
Fire services and GMP are still urging residents nearby to keep their windows and doors closed.
