A FEMALE prison officer was jailed after having a baby following a secret year-long fling with a caged robber.
Corinne Redhead, 29, initially denied misconduct until cops found lag Robert O’Connor named as dad on the tot’s birth certificate.
Locking her up for 25 months, Judge Michael Simon told her: “You were utterly in breach of your professional duty.”
Jail wing supervisor Redhead fell for O’Connor — who was serving ten years — while working at HMP The Mount at Bovingdon, Herts.
She was six months pregnant when officers, acting on a tip-off, raided his cell in January 2019 and found a mobile phone stashed in the U-bend of his toilet.
On it were messages between the pair, including 100 exchanged in just 72 hours which included raunchy sex texts.
O’Connor had saved Redhead’s number under “My Baby”.
Redhead, of Stevenage, Herts, was arrested and, three months later, had O’Connor’s son.
She was charged with misconduct last year and told The Sun she was innocent — changing her story after police found the birth certificate.
Defending Redhead, Drea Becker told Luton crown court: “She is of previous good character and has made a very terrible mistake.
“Over a period of months, she fell in love with a man called Robert O’Connor.
“She makes it clear there is no excuse. She expresses remorse and shame.”
Judge Michael Simon told her it was lucky for her the phone had not been used to enable other offences.
He said of her crime: “The culpability, in my judgment, is high.
“This was not a momentary lapse, but was carried out over an extended period of time.”
He added: “You could and should have stepped back, reported Mr O’Connor and stepped back from the relationship.”
