Hundreds of households woke to darkness and freezing conditions today as they found out they had been left without power.
According to Northern Powergrid’s maps, areas from Blackwell to Low Coniscliffe in Darlington have been hit by the outage.
It came as temperatures plunged to -2C overnight.
One resident has told The Northern Echo the power has been out since 1:30am, and has affected around 200 homes.
This resident said a generator was needed, and they were told by Northern Powergrid that power is expected to return at 9:30am.

The power cuts have mostly affected the Darlington area, specifically areas such as Blackwell, and properties to the west of Darlington town centre.
Adding to this, Northern Powergrid’s maps show several properties are without power in Newcastle.
Meanwhile, residents reported that Northern Powergrid have said to let them know if anyone needs hot drinks.
Adding to this, residents have been left checking on friends and elderly family members as they are left without power in freezing temperatures.

The weather this morning in Darlington currently measures in at -2C, as many are forced to brave the cold without power.
In a statement, a Northern Powergrid spokesperson said: “At around 01:28 this morning (11th December) a powercut affecting 1,379 customers due to a fault on our underground network.
“1,263 customers were quickly restored by our control team. Our teams continue to work hard to restore the remaining 116 customers
“Although we don’t have a confirmed location for the fault we will be putting generators in place whilst we locate and coordinate repairs.
“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience whilst we work to get the power back on”
Generators have now been put in place.
