Hebron Baptist Church
A few days ago, a man was telling an older relative about his teenage sons. ‘I am so proud of them both for what they have become.’ It gave him real joy to see how their personalities had developed.
Knowing about someone is not the same as knowing them. When we know someone well, we feel at ease with them, sharing joys and sorrows, hopes and dreams. A caring parent always has a loving heart and open ear. All good relationships take time to establish and may last a lifetime.
The Lord God takes great delight in those who have a close relationship with him and know him. God’s hand formed the depths of the earth, the mountains, land, and sea. He is our God, people are under his care. (Psalm 95:3-7).
The disciple Peter, though somewhat impetuous at times, still responded to the Lord’s unfailing love. Later he wrote to believers to encourage them in their relationship with the Lord whom they had not seen. Peter reminded them of God’s character. ‘Just as God is holy, be holy in all you do (1Peter 1:14-16, Leviticus 11:44,45).
God’s holiness is above everything. There is no greater love, mercy, compassion, grace, beauty, or purity freely available to anyone willing to comes into a close, intimate, and everlasting relationship (Psalm 29:2). In holiness God reaches out to show his perfect plan for all of us as he did to Peter.

The Old Chapel, Tenby
There are two phrases in the Bible which tell us the importance of Jesus Christ in our personal faith. The preacher last Sunday morning said that Andrew found his brother Simon and ‘brought him to Jesus’. That is what the Christian faith is all about – sinners coming, or being brought, to a person – not a creed or even a way of life. We come by faith to Jesus, who died in the place of sinners on the cross that all who believe in Him might be saved.
The second expression is found in the incident where the evangelist Philip finds a high-ranking Ethiopian man on his way home from Jerusalem. The Ethiopian is reading from Isaiah chapter 53, the great passage about the sufferings of Jesus. ‘Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter…’ The Ethiopian is confused. ‘About whom is this prophet writing? Himself or another?’ And Philip preached to him, ‘Jesus’. Jesus is the subject of the prophecy, ‘He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities… and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all’. We preach Jesus, we come to Jesus and we trust in Jesus. There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
The Old Chapel has a family Lighthouse Service upstairs every Sunday morning at 11am to which you are cordially invited. Children are welcome as it includes a Sunday School. A ‘Looking into Christianity’ course starts on the first Wednesday in February, 6.30pm. During the week, the Old Chapel runs the Coffee Shop downstairs; they also host the Community Fridge, the Food Hub and the PATCH Food Bank. They would love to see you there.
HOLYROOD & ST TEILO’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Tenby
“Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill. There he sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them…” (Matthew 5:1)
When a Jewish Rabbi was teaching officially, he sat down; when it came to Official Teaching this was always done seated. The fact that Matthew emphasizes that Jesus sat down to teach indicates that this teaching is central and official.
The Beatitudes, ten in number and forming a new decalogue, reverse all the world`s values regarding what constitutes happiness. In the Beatitudes, Jesus instructs his disciples in the contradictory blessedness of poverty, hunger, sorrow, and persecution. In poverty, we recognize God`s reign; in hunger, his providence; in sorrow, true happiness; and in persecution, true joy.
In other words, the blessed in Jesus’ list are poor in spirit, compassionate, meek, merciful, clean of heart, peacemakers and those who are willing even to be insulted and persecuted for their lived faith in him.
The desire for happiness is an understandable one. Having enough money; having the right insurance policies to protect us when things go wrong; having enough food and shelter to keep us safe and well. However, Matthew suggests that each of us should consider making a personal Declaration of Dependence on God, and then work with his grace to lead a holier and happier life, “for God alone satisfies”.

St Johns Church, Tenby
The annual Methodist Covenant Service at St Johns on Sunday was led by the Rev’d Lorette Hinson. Exodus 24:3-11 tells of first Covenant between God and Man with Moses and the people of Israel, and in John 15: 1-10 Jesus likens himself to the true vine; his followers are the branches, and God is the gardener.
Lorette wondered how many times her listeners have said the Covenant prayers over the years; which state that they ‘give ourselves wholeheartedly to God’. Can they give wholeheartedly? Have they the resolve and will to do so? “We must remember we are not alone,” she said. “The gift from God is the Holy Spirit which can be our constant help, strength and comfort.”
“This promise to wholeheartedly give of ourselves is God at work, not our efforts. So, it is not what we do but rather who we are, and we are Gods people.” It’s all about doing what God calls us to do. ‘Here I am Lord, I will go Lord, where you lead me’.
Lorette reminded the congregation of St David’s words ‘do the little things’. For example, praying for those we know to be in need, or in grief, or in pain, the smile, the phone call, God calls his followers to wholeheartedly do what they can, in the way that they can, in the places they can, at the times they can , to the people they can, as long as ever they can.
Next Sunday morning service will be led by Rev’d Stella Hayton. Monday 2-4 craft club. Wednesday 10-12 coffee and Welsh cakes on sale. Everyone is very welcome at St Johns.
Tenby Salvation Army
A week ago the Salvation Army hosted a service for the united churches of Tenby led by Major Linda Read supported by local clergy.
Prayers were said for inclusivity and acceptance of everyone in the worldwide church. On Sunday Major Linda continued her series of sermons on the Prayer of Jabez found in 1 Chronicles in the old testament. She spoke about the part of the prayer asking God to bless us – as a church and individually.
Time was included for the young people and everyone joined in singing ‘I’m gonna jump up and down’ complete with actions. They then made cut outs of their hands and decorated these.
With a magnet on the back of the hands they can be put on a fridge as a reminder to the young people that Jesus loves them.
The hall is open each week as a Warm Welcome Space for anyone to call in and enjoy free hot drinks and a snack.
This provides an opportunity to meet others and to save heating costs as home as well. Warm Welcome is on a Tuesday from 11am to 2pm.
On a Thursday from 10.30am to 12.30pm the hall is open for coffee, cakes and bacon rolls and the sale of books and bric a brac. Sunday meetings are at 10.30am and everyone is welcome at any time. If the door is open, please come in.
Further information, advice and assistance is available from Major Linda on 07776 965 567 or 01834 843329.

New Life Church
Wales, one of the smallest nations, was chosen by God for the start of revival, seeing hundreds of thousands saved!
Florrie Evans, at her Cardigan youth group, spoke out of her love for God, this was the spark. At Welsh cottage prayer meetings one miner said: “We need to pray more”, 650 people were saved in a few weeks! 1904 Evan Roberts, former student and miner, had been praying for 10 years, he prayed “bend me” and became a different man; in two weeks the revival spread, thousands were saved. One in five people in Wales were born again. Betting shops and pubs closed, no crime nor feuds, debts repaid, people studied the Bible, people saw angels, prayed, and fell to the floor as Holy Spirit swept across them! Revival moved through Britain, Europe, then round the world. It all started here in Wales with a little girl, a miner and a pastor.
If it’s of man it will fail; if it’s of God you can’t stop it. Sometimes we think too small. Think bigger, we need revival now! Jesus sends God’s Spirit so we can do more. We need to see God’s power, healing, setting people free. In Acts it shows regular men with faith, combined with God’s Spirit, doing miracles.
Do you think “I’m not important”? Good news, God loves the unimportant. God takes a nobody, turns them into a somebody, in Jesus we have God’s power, all things are possible.
Power of life and death are in the tongue. Speak life, seek revival and call on the Lord today.
