Trafford carers celebrated International Older Persons Day last week in recognition of their work with older people.
They were invited to take part in a barge trip around Broadheath and enjoyed afternoon tea alongside a quiz.
“It was a fabulous afternoon, provided a much-needed break and I met some lovely people,” said Kirsty Parson, a carer who runs a ‘Knit and Natter’ group.
Other initiatives run by carers in attendance included art and singing groups, counselling, as well as bereavement support via Trafford Council.
“I’ve found the Carers Centre a lifeline for support,” Kirsty added.
“I’ve accessed lots of their help; the nurse and the counselling have been really helpful for me.”
Cllr Karina Carter, Trafford Council’s executive member for adult social care, said: “Our Trafford carers show resilience, strength and care in what they do, every day, and we continue to be inspired by them and grateful for their contribution to the Trafford community.”
Trafford Council leads a range of initiatives for the area’s nearly 42,000 over-65s, including a ‘Get Connected’ project run by Age UK, which helps to support older people getting online.
There is also a dementia advice service available which provides support to those diagnosed with the condition to help them maintain a high quality of life.
