A YOUNG boy has been tragically killed after sticking his head out of a bus window and hitting a post.
The horrific event occurred as the unnamed seven-year-old boy and his family travelled to celebrate a religious holiday in Veracruz, Mexico.
On December 11, as the family made their way to a Catholic pilgrimage, witnesses report seeing the boy decide to suddenly stick his head out out of the window.
The vehicle then moved closer to the side of the road, and the child's head was struck by a street light post.
The boy reportedly died at the scene and as Red Cross paramedics rushed to help, they could only confirm his death.
The driver then fled before the police arrived.
As the public received news of the bus tragedy, social media users did not waste time in twisting the blame onto the child's parents, criticising them for not stopping their son.
Facebook user, Sonia Rodriguez, commented: "My parents always taught me to never stick my head out the window of a vehicle."
Another user named Acor M Msilla said: "I remember what they always told us as children. Don't stick your head out the car window. Poor little creature."
A third, Carmen Cunurana Ale, responded: "That's why parents should always teach their children not to put their heads out when they're travelling on the bus."
It is not known whether police are searching for the missing driver.
