BRITS will be soaked by torrential rain today – and it's going to get worse with a warning for fierce 'danger to life' winds tomorrow.
Heavy downpours will drench parts of the country today as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for rain in Scotland with fears of flooding.
As of 2.45pm, Scotland has already seen almost 3.5 inches of rainfall, with further downpours expected for the rest of the day and into tomorrow.
Another yellow warning for destructive gales with the potential to cause "danger to life" is also in place for Wednesday.
Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said: "This week will be a particularly changeable week, with rain likely in many areas at times.
"It’ll be more persistent on until Thursday morning particularly for northern and western areas of the country, afterwards it will become more showery."
She added: "The heaviest rain is expected on Tuesday evening and Wednesday daytime.
"We could see up to 60mm falling throughout Tuesday and Wednesday in parts of Northern England and Western Scotland, which is about 2 inches."
Travel delays and flooding are expected after Tuesday's warning for heavy rain from midnight until 10am in Western Scotland.
Gales of up to 70 or 80mph are forecast for Wednesday in northern parts of the UK including much of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The Met Office have issued a warning which reads: "There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris."
Power cuts are also likely to occur with knock-on effects limiting mobile phone coverage.
A total of eight flood warnings have been announced by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency amid heavy rain forecasts and many of these concern the Western Isles.
The torrential downpours and gale force winds are set to hit due to a low pressure system over the UK, particularly in western Scotland.
A notice from the Met Office has advised people that bus and train services are likely to be affected and journey times will increase.
Flooding and spray on the roads will also make journey times longer and they warned the public not to drive unless it is really necessary.
Road and bridge closures could be likely as flood warnings have been put in place.
It is also encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible but if you need to go out, do not shelter close to buildings, trees or fencing as they could collapse.
By the end of the week the weather should improve with clear or sunny spells forecast.
