Six leading Valley public schools make Niche's national top 100 list – The Business Journals

Six Phoenix-metro schools are among the top 100 public high schools in America, according to the 2023 list of highest-ranked public schools from education data platform Niche.
The schools are all Basis charter schools, and they also take the top six spots on Niche’s Phoenix-area list and all but one of them topped off last year’s list as well. The Niche rankings are in their ninth year.
Leading off Arizona’s list were Basis schools in Scottsdale (No. 29 in the nation), Phoenix (No. 36), Peoria (No. 59), Mesa (No. 63), Chandler (No. 64), and Ahwatukee (No. 65).
Seven other Basis schools appeared among the top 25 public schools in the Valley, and the list was dominated by charter schools. In fact, only two institutions on the list — Arizona College Prep Erie Campus in Chandler and Mary C. O’Brien Elementary School in Casa Grande — were traditional public schools.

Niche also named Chandler Unified School District No. 80 as the No. 1 district in the Valley, followed by No. 2, Scottsdale Unified School District, No. 3 Gilbert Public Schools, No. 4 Deer Valley Unified School District and No. 5 Heritage Academy. Of those, the Chandler district was No. 2 in the state, Scottsdale’s district was No. 4 and Gilbert’s was No. 5. Leading the state was Catalina Foothills Unified School District in the Tucson metro.

Niche provides profiles on every school and college in America and said it based its rankings on an analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores, college data and ratings from Niche users, in addition to input from the schools themselves.
Grades are given based on weighted factors, with nearly half of the scoring based on the Niche scores of colleges that graduates go on to attend and average SAT/ACT composite scores. Other factors include the percentage of seniors who go on to four-year colleges, culture and diversity reporting, parent and student survey results, and student-teacher ratios.
“Some of the biggest decisions that parents face have to do with their children’s education,” said Luke Skurman, founder and CEO of Niche, in a statement. “We strive to put as much power in their hands as possible so they can make informed decisions with confidence. Our 2023 rankings surface key insights and data points for parents everywhere to use in their school search. We’re honored that millions of families consider us a reliable resource during such a pivotal moment in their lives.”
