Teignmouth & District u3a member, Neil Howell, organised a Wassail at the Holcombe Community Orchard.
On a cold night, the hardy souls, including the u3a Shanty Crew, excelled themselves during this historical and very traditional event.
Shanty crew members Paul & Linda Cooper really threw themselves into this important occasion!
Neil had sent out details of the event, which he described as one of music, song, mulled cider, noise, mysticism and merriment!

Participants were invited to dress up for the occasion – anything to help drive out evil spirits and encourage the fertility of the orchard.
Finally, they were to bring something to make noise! A pot and a wooden spoon would be ideal!
A trip to the Castle Inn with entertainment provided by a local group of Morris Dancers was a very social able way to round off the evening!
