Amazon workers will stage the first ever strike in the UK today [25 January 2023]. 
Hundreds of Amazon workers at the fulfilment centre have voted to walk out in anger over the company’s 50 pence per hour pay offer.
An industrial action ballot saw a majority of more than 98 per of workers vote to strike. 
Amazon UK Services Limited reported that it paid just £10.8 million in tax in 2021, despite recording a pre-tax profit of £204 million. 
Stuart Richards, GMB Senior Organiser, said:   
“Today, Amazon workers in Coventry will make history. 
“They’ve defied the odds to become the first ever Amazon workers in the UK to go on strike. 
“They’re taking on one of the world’s biggest companies to fight for a decent standard of living. 
“They should be rightly proud of themselves.  
“After six months of ignoring all requests to listen to workers’ concerns, GMB urges Amazon UK bosses to do the right thing and give workers a proper pay rise.”

The package includes the creation of 500 new jobs.
GMB Union have today welcomed the news that manufacturing giant JCB have agreed a significant pay boost for members at the firm.
After weeks of campaigning and negotiations with the company, workers will now receive a 10% pay rise along with a £2500 cash payment for all workers in the group, including agency staff.
The outcome includes the creation of 500 new permanent jobs through the JCB agency provider Global Guidant.

Workers at the company have welcomed the win as union recognition and employee benefits are defended.
GMB union have today welcomed news that company top brass at South Staffordshire Water have conceded to union demands to protect recognition for GMB at the company.
As part of recent organisational changes at the company, involving employees passing from South Staffordshire Water to Doocey Group, union representatives had warned of risks to the recognition as well as key staff benefits such as death in service payments.
