The report lists Oregon Tech as the No. 2 Top Public College in the West, No. 6 Best Western Regional Colleges, No. 29 Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs, and No. 3 Best Western Regional Colleges for Veterans.
“We are proud to see our accolades demonstrating the commitment of our faculty and staff and the success of our alumni,” said Oregon Tech President Nagi Naganathan. “Oregon Tech is experiencing an era of innovation, investment, and expansion that provides new and exciting opportunities for our students and faculty. In addition to state and donor investments in our facilities, active collaborations with industries give Oregon Tech students the chance to gain valuable, real-world experience, which is a point of pride for Oregon Tech. This experience gives our graduates a definite edge when they enter their profession. Their return on investment remains high, with average graduate starting salaries of $60,000 per year.”
U.S. News groups colleges into categories, with Oregon Tech listed within regional colleges in the West, a list comprised of the best of the baccalaureate colleges in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. U.S. News states that overall university rankings, published annually since 1983, are based on several criteria, including graduation and retention rates, graduation rate performance, social mobility, faculty resources, peer opinion, student excellence, financial resources, and alumni giving. The publication says it places the heaviest weight on student outcomes, including analyzing schools’ success at retaining and graduating students within six years.
The undergraduate engineering program rankings are based solely on peer assessment surveys. To appear on an undergraduate engineering survey, a school must have an undergraduate engineering program accredited by ABET, an organization that accredits college and university programs. Oregon Tech is also featured as a Top Performer on Social Mobility for advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded Pell Grants.
In addition to the U.S. News ranking, Oregon Tech is No. 15 in Bachelor’s Colleges Rankings by Washington Monthly magazine, a ranking based on contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service. Oregon Tech is ranked No. 40 among Western schools in Washington Monthly’s “Best Bang For The Buck” category for how well a college helps non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices. Oregon Tech’s ranking is the top ranking among Oregon public universities.
