This world cup has been the bearer of bad news since the moment they announced it. From protests to misconduct, suppression of LGBTQ+ rights to human rights, and threats to death, there is so much negativity that is very easy to point out at this event. Journalists have always found themselves in not-so-ideal conditions because of local laws. When the venue for this tournament was announced, the authorities welcomed everyone to visit the nation without any hesitation. However, Qatar has detained and deported many journalists so far.

During the early stage of the tournament, a video went viral where the local security teams threatened a Dutch journalist. They said they will break the camera to cover a piece in public. To say that some things here are shady would be a big understatement. This is the 2nd journalist’s death within a week of this tournament. However, one of them is believed to be more scandalous.

FIFA World Cup is about to be over, but the dominos of bad news from the event aren’t stopping. The latest news came from the media as one of the cameramen of the Qatari media outlet, Al Kass TV, passed away. It happened after he collapsed while covering the quarterfinals. Khalid al-Misslam was a photojournalist for Al Kass TV. Golf-Times shared the news on Twitter with grace for the journalist.

This is the second such news over the weekend, as a journalist from CBS Sports named Grant Wahl collapsed and died while covering the Netherlands-Argentina match. They took both journalists to the hospital and doctors declared them dead hours later. Family members of Wahl are convinced that there is a bigger conspiracy. According to them, he was getting death threats as he wore a t-shit to show support for the LGBTQ+ community.

As we know, laws are stricter there but a conspiracy is still a conspiracy. However, LeBron James made a statement on this saying, “it’s a tragic loss. It’s unfortunate to lose someone as great as he was and I wish his family like I said, the best. And may he rest in paradise..”.
