A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice is in place
Bristol has woken up to its first snowfall of the 2022 winter season, with a carpet of white settling overnight in the city as well as South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. A Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place until midday today (Sunday, December 11).
Snow caused chaos in other parts of the South West yesterday, with some roads in Devon impassable and difficult conditions reported on the M5. There were also road closures in Somerset due to icy conditions, with multiple crashes reported.
According to the BBC weather forecast for Bristol, light snowfall is predicted from 7am until midday today. However, the Met Office forecast differs, with no more snow expected but temperatures only reaching a maximum of 2C.

The cold snap is the result of an 'arctic blast'. Google's weather forecast, which uses weather.com, predicts snow showers for Bristol today and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday next week.
The warning from the Met Office says the is likely to be some disruption "due to icy surfaces, with snowfall in a few places". We will be bringing you the latest weather and traffic updates from Bristol below.

National Highways has issued advice on winter driving in the grip of the severe weather.
Tonight:
Very cold overnight with temperatures quickly dropping below freezing, leading to a widespread and sharp frost. Variable amounts of cloud with clear spells. Minimum temperature -4 °C.
Monday:
A cold and frosty start on Monday with largely cloudy skies across the east of the region perhaps with an isolated snow flurry. A few sunny spells in the west. Maximum temperature 3 °C.
Further north on the M5, there is stop-start traffic due to snow in both directions from J11 A40 (Gloucester/Golden Valley Bypass) to J12 B4008 (Quedgeley/Hardwicke)

First Bus has announed service disruption on the number 1. Meanwhile over in Gloucestershire, Stagecoach has announced it can't serve the Forest of Dean at all today due to heavy snow there.

The Met Office has issued another yellow weather warning this morning, this time for freezing fog. It doesn't currently cover Bristol but does cover parts of some neighbouring counties including Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

People across Bristol will see a wintry mix of weather today – as a warning remains in place for snow and ice.
The Met Office is forecasting freezing temperatures and fog this morning across Bristol today – with some people already waking up to a smattering of snow.
Temperatures are also set to struggle all day, hovering around freezing until they plunge again this evening
A Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice is in place until noon today warning of potential disruption is likely due to icy surfaces and snowfall in some areas.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Mist and freezing fog slow will be to clear and possibly linger all day in some eastern counties.
“Some sunshine developing in the west, but a few wintry showers remain possible.”
It will be very cold overnight with temperatures plunging to minus four, leading to a widespread and sharp frost.
It will be a cold and frosty start on Monday with cloudy skies and perhaps an isolated snow flurry.
Daytime temperatures will remain cold at around 3c. The rest of the week will also remain cold with severe overnight frosts.
Freezing fog patches are likely on Tuesday but it will turn dry with sunny periods later in the week and turn windy.
