Iowa Hawkeyes see another rise in USA TODAY Sports' 1-131 re-rank – Hawkeyes Wire

A team once looking beaten down, left for dead, and viewed to be having a down year has rallied around each other and turned things upside down in the very best way. The Iowa Hawkeyes turned their season around rapidly and it is showing.
“We only care about the people’s opinions inside the locker room and inside our building. I don’t know if you could have told me a couple of weeks ago that this is what it would look like, but we still have two games ahead of us and we’re happy that we kind of have our fate in our own hands. Let’s see what we can do with it, a game at a time,” Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta said in regards to the Hawkeyes bouncing back.
Coming off their third consecutive win to get to 6-4 overall, 4-3 in Big Ten conference play, the Hawkeyes received another bump in the USA TODAY Sports’ 1-131 re-rank. This week saw the Hawkeyes climb nine more spots up to No. 45 overall.
Iowa’s upcoming opponent, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, find themselves at 7-3 and also rising in the re-rank. The Gophers handled lowly Northwestern last week to get a small climb of four spots up to No. 49.
Iowa knows that the most important task at hand is taking down the Golden Gophers this week to keep their hopes alive as any Big Ten West dreams require two wins over the final two weeks.
“You have to focus on beating Minnesota because the second you start looking at the standings and all that, you lose to Minnesota and it’s over. We still have to keep our focus on what is important,” quarterback Spencer Petras said when asked about the outcomes across other games in the Big Ten.
