After the win over Auburn, LSU found itself ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time in more than a year and was on the verge of cracking the top 25 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The Tigers were the second-highest vote-getter among unranked teams last week, but their case took a hit with the 40-13 loss to Tennessee on Saturday. They received just five votes this week despite sitting at 4-2 with a 2-1 record in conference play (including a win over a red-hot Mississippi State team.
There was no change among the top 10 — which includes four SEC teams — in this week’s poll, but the Bulldogs surged up six spots to No. 17, while Kentucky dropped nine spots to No. 22 after the loss to South Carolina in which quarterback Will Levis was unavailable.
After the blowout loss to Mississippi State, Arkansas dropped out of the rankings entirely.
