Penn State’s first loss of the 2022 season was a brutal one, and the Nittnay Lions paid for it in the updated USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll the day after. Following Penn State’s lopsided 41-17 loss at Michigan, the Nittany Lions fell out of the top 10.
Penn State is now ranked No. 16 in the Week 7 coaches poll, which was updated Sunday afternoon. Michigan moved up to No. 3 following their win and Alabama losing on the road at Tennessee. The Vols jumped up four spots to No. 4 and Alabama fell to No. 6.
Georgia takes over the top spot in the coaches poll this week with 42 first-place votes. Ohio State moves up to No. 2 with 17 first-place votes. Michigan picked up one first-place vote and Tennessee received two.
Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan are joined by Illinois in the coaches poll this week to give the Big Ten four teams in the top 25. Illinois is debuting in the coaches poll t No. 20 this week (they were ranked in the AP Top 25 last week).
