FOUR days of downpours begin TODAY as 47mph winds and an inch of rain an hour is forecast to batter Britain.
Multiple low pressure systems rolling in off the North Atlantic will push bands of rain over central, southern and northern England throughout Friday morning.
Around 32mm of rain (an inch) will fall across these areas and clear south-eastwards to leave sunny spells and showers later in the day.
The wet and windy weather arrives alongside an "active" jet stream off the Atlantic which is pushing rain up from southern England.
Despite the arrival of wind and rain, temperatures remain mild for much of the UK.
Friday will see highs of 18C in London, 17C in Hull, 17C in Plymouth, 15C in Liverpool, and 12C in Aberdeen, with temperatures keeping the wind chill at bay.
Overnight and into Saturday morning will see more showers in north-western areas.
And though dry for most, a few showers will also develop in southern areas.
Saturday will see more breezy weather with showers across western areas as the downpours enter their second day.
And massive gusts of up to 47mph are expected to bash the western edge of Britain as the mixed weather rages on, the Met Office said.
It will however be drier in eastern areas with some sunny spells.
Saturday will see highs of 17C in Norwich, 17C in London, 17C in Plymouth, 13C in Newcastle and 11C in Aberdeen.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin warned of the arrival of a wet weather front from the Atlantic will bring "more persistent rain" up from the south west on Sunday.
This rain will continue overnight into Monday but it will then be mostly dry with sunshine throughout the morning, the BBC reports.
Later on Monday will see the arrival of rain in northern areas, while cloud and lingering rain as forecast to hit the south and east.
Tuesday will bring an end to the four days of downpours as more settled weather arrives with sunny spells.
