Pay-TV broadcaster BT Sport has secured the UK broadcast rights to the EuroCup European club basketball competition for the 2022/23 season.
The new agreement will see BT Sport’s tournament coverage, which also includes Ireland, start with group stages, and run all the way through to the final.
The pay-TV network’s move for the EuroCup rights comes with the London Lions making their debut in the second-tier European club competition. 777 Partners investment in the Lions, and British basketball more broadly, is being geared towards greater involvement in continental competition.
“We are looking forward to bringing British basketball fans more coverage of European club basketball, including the London Lions’ bid to win the 7DAYS EuroCup,” said Rachel Knight, sports rights director at BT Sport.
Alex Ferrer Kristjansson, senior director of marketing and communications at EuroLeague Basketball, added: “We are delighted to welcome BT to our family of broadcasters.
“Together with the addition of London Lions to the roster of 2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup teams, it was of high priority to find the right partner that would allow us to bring this content to the biggest number of fans possible and help us grow the appeal for professional basketball in the UK. BT is the perfect fit to achieve that.”
