The University of Wisconsin-Madison once again made the list of top 50 national colleges, according to the 2022 U.S. News & World Report.
The publication announced its 2022 best college rankings which had UW-Madison at No. 38, tied with the University of California, Davis and the University of Texas at Austin. The Madison campus came in at No. 42 in 2021.
UW-Madison also ranked No. 10 for top public schools among national universities.
Marquette University tied for No. 83 for top national universities, grabbing a score equal to that of the University of Iowa, Binghamton University-SUNY, Stevens Institute of Technology and the University of California, Santa Cruz.

U.S. News uses a weighted system to calculate its best college rankings. Outcomes like graduation and retention rates account for 40% of a school’s score. Faculty resources and expert opinion each make up 20%; financial resources are weighted at 10% with student excellence making up 7%. Alumni giving caps it off with 3%. These weighted systems changed slightly since 2021.
“For nearly 40 years, the Best Colleges methodology has continuously evolved to reflect changes in the higher education landscape and the interests of prospective students,” said Kim Castro, editor and chief content officer at U.S. News, in a press release. “Guiding that evolution is U.S. News’ mission of providing useful data and information to help with one of life’s biggest decisions.”
